Sustainable Choice highlights campsites that have achieved Svensk Camping’s sustainability certification.

Svensk Camping’s sustainability certification has been developed to help the camping industry work with sustainability in a more systematic and long-term way.

Svensk Camping’s sustainability certification consists of more than 71 criteria across eleven areas, as defined in the Svensk Camping Standard. Some criteria are mandatory and must be met, while others are flexible. To achieve the industry’s sustainability certification, a campsite must meet all mandatory requirements.

A sustainability declaration is completed every 12 months, and advisory visits by authorised system advisors are carried out regularly.

The eleven main categories of the sustainability certification are:

• Sustainability management – Systematic work, monitoring and development

• Staff involvement – Participation and engagement

• Guest information – Clear communication and guidance

• Water – Resource-efficient management and quality assurance

• Chemicals – Safe and responsible use

• Waste – Smart procedures for waste reduction and recycling

• Energy – Energy efficiency and renewable solutions

• Food – Responsible choices in products and food management

• Indoor and outdoor environment – Pleasant and sustainable environments for guests and staff

• Community engagement – Local involvement and long-term development

• Biodiversity – Consideration for nature, vegetation and ecosystems
